A Trusted Trustee

Serving The Community

Mary has been  a champion for Antioch students and their families since the early 1970s. Whether as an elected official or a passionate advocate, her priority is to help and guide all.

Students are her No. 1 priority

It's a wonderful full circle for Mary, who started her deep community involvement as a member of the Antioch School Board.

A vital election

With a passion for education, Mary will bring her expertise to the AUSD board of trustees. Our students - and their families - need her deep wealth of knowledge.

Mary Cares

I’ve served Antioch as Mayor, Councilmember, School Board Trustee and Child Advocate. For my 40-plus years of community service, I’m proud of my CCC Women’s Commission Women of the Year award and YMCA dedication of Mary Rocha Child Development Center.

Today, our most pressing issues are Safety, Budgets, Student Programs and Civil Leadership. The country’s tragic school shootings have raised vital concerns about safety. When I last served on the AUSD board, students and staff only needed fire evacuation and shelter-in-place drills. Now, all must be prepared to respond to an active shooter on campus, bomb threats and more.

I have knowledge in balancing budgets, which meet our students’ needs. With the recent approval of charter schools by three members of the school board, AUSD will be required to provide support to these external campuses, reducing resources for our schools.

Public schools are funded with a formula designed to align resources to support underserved students. It’s vital to have clear communication with our parent community about the needs of their children.

I have the experience to restore civil leadership, so community officials can work together regardless of political differences. It’s important to keep students and families at the forefront of decisions, and to always practice professionalism for the sake of our students and schools. In my current role of AUSD personnel commissioner, I ensure the rights of classified employees are based on merit to retain the best for our district.
